I’ll start off simple. Simple is not a dirty word around
here. Actually simple can be quite powerful. A sublime
example of this can be seen on the cover of this months
Gourmet
Magazine. I pulled Gourmet out of my ridiculously
small mailbox the other day, took one look at it in my
hand and immediately felt faint. All of the bills and junk
mail fell out of my other hand as I braced myself against
the wall. What a gorgeous photograph. Minimal modern yet
luxurious and rich at the same time. Clean, detailed and
drippy-wet glossy. I love it. Of course the photography
and art direction in Gourmet is always good, but this
cover is a home run.Photograpged by Romulo Yanes, the chocolate-glazed hazelnut mousse cake was styled by Maggie Ruggiero and Julia Garcia-Tobar. My compliments on a beautiful job. And hats off also to the editors at Gourmet for understanding how integral design and presentation are to ‘Good Living’.
